Bounding Box Annotation

Tight, consistent 2D boxes — labelled by humans, checked twice

Bounding box annotation is the workhorse of every object detection pipeline. We draw tight, class-consistent rectangles around every object in your frames — no loose padding, no missed instances, no drifting label taxonomy across a 500k-image dataset.

Loose boxes and inconsistent labels quietly ruin your model

A model is only as good as its worst annotator. When boxes are padded, occluded objects get skipped, or two labellers disagree on what counts as a "truck", your mAP stalls and nobody can tell you why.

Our annotators work from your written label spec, not their intuition. Every batch runs through a second reviewer and an automated IoU consistency pass before it reaches you.

What is bounding box annotation?

A bounding box is the smallest axis-aligned rectangle that fully contains an object, paired with a class label and optional attributes such as occlusion, truncation, or confidence.

It is the fastest annotation type per object, which makes it the default choice for detection models that need volume — retail shelf audits, traffic monitoring, drone survey, security analytics, and defect spotting.

Where it's used

Built for real production pipelines

01

Retail shelf & planogram audits

Detect every SKU facing on a shelf photo, including partially hidden units.

02

Traffic & smart city analytics

Vehicles, pedestrians, signs and signals labelled frame by frame.

03

Drone & aerial survey

Small-object detection across thousands of high-resolution tiles.

04

Security & people counting

Person detection under low light, motion blur and heavy occlusion.

How we work

A spec, a pilot, then volume — in that order

Most labelling projects fail on ambiguity, not effort. We remove the ambiguity first, prove it on a pilot, and only then scale throughput.

Start with a free pilot
  1. 1

    Send your label spec

Share 20–50 sample frames and your class definitions. We return an annotated pilot within 24 hours.

  2. 2

    Calibration round

We align on edge cases — occlusion rules, minimum box size, ambiguous classes — and lock the spec in writing.

  3. 3

    Production at scale

A dedicated annotator pod works your queue daily with a reviewer attached to every batch.

  4. 4

    QA + delivery

Automated consistency checks, then export in your exact training format.

Quality control

This is for you if…

Computer-vision teams shipping a detection model this quarter

Robotics and retail-tech startups without an in-house labelling team

Research labs that need reproducible, spec-driven ground truth

Every project runs under NDA with access-controlled workstations. Data is deleted on request after delivery.

Why teams switch

You have three options. Only one of them scales.

Hire in-house

  • 6–10 weeks to recruit and train
  • Fixed salary cost at variable volume
  • QA falls on your ML engineers

Random freelancers

  • Every batch looks slightly different
  • No written spec, no review pass
  • Disappear mid-project

Genius Clipping Path

  • Dedicated pod trained on your written spec
  • Two-pass QA on every single batch
  • Pay per unit — scale up or pause anytime

Bounding Box Annotation FAQs

Pricing, guidelines, security, rework and export formats — the answers teams usually ask for on the first call.

How do you price bounding boxes?+

Per box, starting at $0.03. Dense scenes with 50+ objects per frame get a volume rate, and we quote a fixed per-image price when box counts are predictable.

Can you handle occluded or truncated objects?+

Yes. Your spec decides: we can label the visible extent, the amodal extent, or tag occlusion level as an attribute.

What about video?+

We annotate video frame by frame with object IDs carried across frames, so you get consistent tracking data, not disconnected per-frame boxes.

Is my data kept private?+

Every annotator signs an NDA, works in an access-controlled environment, and data is deleted on request after delivery.

Can we run a free pilot before committing?+

Yes. Send 50–100 representative images and we label them free against your guideline draft, usually within 24 hours, so you can measure quality on your own data before any invoice.

How do you handle our annotation guidelines?+

You can send an existing spec or start from a call. We turn it into a written guideline with edge-case examples, get your sign-off, and every annotator is trained and tested against it.

What happens if labels come back wrong?+

Rework is free. Flag the batch within 7 days of delivery, we correct the affected items and update the guideline so the same error class does not repeat.

How do you keep our data secure?+

NDAs on request, access-controlled workstations, no personal devices or external storage, project-scoped access per annotator, and permanent deletion after delivery when you ask for it.

Which export formats do you deliver?+

COCO JSON, YOLO txt, Pascal VOC XML, KITTI, CSV, or masks as PNG. If you use a custom schema or a platform like Labelbox, CVAT, or V7, we deliver straight into it.

How fast can you scale up?+

A dedicated pod starts at 3 annotators and scales to 100+ within about a week, with a QA lead assigned to your project throughout so quality holds as volume grows.

How does billing work?+

Pay per unit with volume tiers, or a fixed monthly dedicated-pod rate. You get an itemised invoice per batch, no setup fee, and no minimum contract on pay-per-unit work.

Still unsure? Ask us anything — we reply within one hour on business days.
